WorléeKyd C 640

WorléeKyd C 640 is a short-oil non-drying alkyd resin based on saturated fatty acids. It is specifically designed for use with nitrocellulose in the production of high-quality modified nitrocellulose finishes. Here are its technical specifications:

• Non volatile content, 1h/125 °C: Approximately 60% ± 1 (DIN EN ISO 3251)
• Content of phthalic anhydride: Approximately 37%
• Oil content: Approximately 38%
• Acid value, on solids: Maximum 15 (DIN EN ISO 3682)
• Colour (Gardner), 50% in xylene: Maximum 10 (DIN ISO 4630)
• Flow time, 20 °C, 50% in xylene: 40 - 60 seconds (DIN 53211-4)
• Delivery form: 60% in xylene

WorléeKyd C 640 is compatible with the majority of short and medium oil length drying and non-drying alkyds. Its compatibility with unplasticized urea and melamine resins must be checked in each case. However, its compatibility with maleic resins, ketone resins, nitrocellulose, and the usual plasticizers is good.

In terms of solubility, WorléeKyd C 640 is soluble in aliphatic and aromatic hydrocarbons, esters, ketones, and higher alcohols. It has limited solubility in lower alcohols and glycol ethers.

Applications and properties:

• Suitable for manufacturing high-quality nitrocellulose finishes for wood and paper.
• Very fast solvent release.
• Versatile non-yellowing nitrocellulose lacquers can be manufactured with WorléeKyd C 640, which may be recoated by spray or curtain coating technique.
• Sanding sealers based on a ratio of 2:1 (calculated on resin solids) of WorléeKyd C 640 and nitrocellulose have exceptionally short drying times and sand very well.
• Good resistance to yellowing, making it suitable for lacquers for pale-colored wood and paper.
• Good pigment wetting properties and absence of components drying by oxidation enable its use as a binder for pigment pastes.
• Can be used in conjunction with nitrocellulose, plasticizers, unplasticized urea formaldehyde resins, and special catalysts for the manufacture of one and two-component acid-catalyzed finishes.
