DESMODUR® MT

Desmodur® MT is a polyisocyanate prepolymer based on diphenylmethane diisocyanate. It serves as a stabilizer for pigmented moisture-curing aromatic one-component polyurethane coatings.

Here are some key points about Desmodur® MT:

• Characterization: It is a brown, solvent-free liquid of low viscosity.
• Specification:
  • NCO Content: Approximately 16.8%.
  • Viscosity (at 23°C): Around 900 ± 300 mPa·s.
• Solubility/Thinnability: Desmodur® MT is soluble in esters such as ethyl acetate, butyl acetate, and 1-methoxypropylacetate-2, as well as aromatic hydrocarbons like toluene, xylene, Solvesso® 100, and Shellsol® A. Solutions formed should be tested for storage stability. It's not compatible with white spirit, and alcohols react with it.
• Compatibility: Generally compatible with other aromatic polyisocyanate prepolymers such as Desmodur® E 21, Desmodur® E 22, and Desmodur® E 1361.
• Properties/Applications: Reacts with water to release carbon dioxide, serving as a dewatering agent for storage stability of moisture-curing pigmented one-component polyurethane coatings. Best results are obtained with two or three times the stoichiometric amount of Desmodur® MT.
• Storage: Recommended to be stored in its sealed original container at room temperature (approximately 23°C) and protected from moisture, heat, and foreign material.

Like other products in the Desmodur® range, Desmodur® MT is not designated for medical grade, food contact, or cosmetic applications unless prior approval is obtained from Covestro. Proper testing and handling procedures should be followed to ensure suitability and safety for specific applications.
