DESMODUR® E XP 2605/1

Desmodur® E XP 2605/1 is a polyisocyanate prepolymer based on toluene diisocyanate (TDI) and diphenylmethan diisocyanate (MDI). Here's a summary of its characteristics and applications:

• Characterization: It's designed for use in the formulation of moisture-curing one-component polyurethane coatings.
• Form Supplied: It's supplied as a 50% solution in butyl acetate.

  • Viscosity (at 23°C): ≤ 350 mPa·s
  • Non-volatile content (0.2 g/60 min./125°C): 51.0 ± 2.0%
  • Color (Iodine): ≤ 2
  • TDI monomer content: < 0.5%
  • MDI monomer content: < 1.0%
• Solubility/Thinnability: It's compatible with solvents such as ethyl acetate, butyl acetate, 1-methoxypropylacetate-2, toluene, and xylene. However, it's not compatible with alcohols due to their reactivity with the prepolymer. Only PU grade solvents should be used, and solvents must not contain reactive groups.
• Properties/Applications: Desmodur® E XP 2605/1 is suitable for the formulation of fast-drying wood coatings for furniture.
• Storage: It should be stored in its original sealed Covestro container at temperatures between 10°C and 30°C, protected from moisture, heat, and foreign material.

This product is mainly used as a hardener in coating materials or adhesives. Due to the potential hazards associated with reactive polyisocyanates, it's recommended for use only in industrial or trade applications and not suitable for DIY use. Additionally, as noted, Desmodur® E XP 2605/1 is labeled as a Trial Product, indicating limited experience with its behavior during processing or use. Testing is recommended to determine its suitability for specific applications.
