ACURE™ 500 is a blocked catalyst designed for use in ACURE systems. These systems utilize the reactivity of Michael Addition, allowing paint formulators to create two-component coatings with fast drying properties and long pot lives. ACURE 500 is composed of a strong base blocked with di-ethyl carbonate. When unblocked, it releases alcohol and CO2, enabling fast dry times with long pot lives in ACURE coatings. The unblocking rate of ACURE 500 can be controlled by the addition of alcohol, such as ethanol, n-propanol, or n-butanol, to the ACURE coating.
Here are some key details about ACURE™ 500:
- Type: Blocked catalyst for ACURE systems.
- Solvent Composition: Water, ethanol, n-propyl alcohol, di-ethyl carbonate.
- Appearance: Clear and clean.
- Equivalent Weight: Approximately 1078 g/Eq.
- Density: 0.95 kg/dm3.
- Flash Point: 27 °C.
- Technical Features: Enables fast dry times with long pot-life, low odor, compatible with solvent-borne systems.
- Application: Used as a catalyst in ACURE-based paints for fast drying, durable coatings in various markets such as marine, protective, agricultural, construction, rail, aerospace, flooring decorative, and wood coating markets.
- Storage Conditions: Store in sealed containers at temperatures above 0 °C and up to 30 °C. Avoid exposure to direct sunlight, ignition sources, oxidizing agents, alkalis, or acids. Small amounts of CO2 may form if the equilibrium shifts and pH increases.
- Shelf Life: Standard shelf life is 365 days from the date of manufacturing, but it may be extended based upon retesting by allnex Quality Control.
- Precautions: Review the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) for identified hazards, recommended personal protective equipment, and procedures before using ACURE 500.
