BYK-1630 is a VOC- and APEO-free mineral oil defoamer designed for use in aqueous architectural coatings, general industrial coatings, floor coatings, adhesives, and sealants. It is formulated with a blend of paraffin-based mineral oils and hydrophobic components, including silicone.
Key Properties and Features:
- Composition: Blend of paraffin-based mineral oils and hydrophobic components, including silicone.
- Density: 0.88 g/ml at 20°C.
- Non-volatile matter: > 97% (after 10 minutes at 150°C).
- Flash point: > 100 °C.
- Special Features: Effective in aqueous systems and recommended for use in emulsion paints, plasters, floor coatings (especially aqueous epoxy top coats), and dispersion adhesives. APEO-free and contains small quantities of a compatible silicone to enhance defoaming action.
Recommended Use:
- Architectural coatings: Especially recommended.
- Floor coatings: Recommended.
- General industrial coatings: Recommended.
- Adhesives & Sealants: Effective for dispersion adhesives such as acrylate, polyurethane, and polyvinyl alcohol dispersions.
Recommended Levels:
- For coatings: 0.1-0.5% additive (as supplied) based on the total formulation, with exceptions up to 0.8%.
- For adhesives & sealants: 0.1-0.5% additive (as supplied) based on the total formulation.
Incorporation and Processing Instructions:
- Sufficiently high shear forces must be applied during incorporation to ensure good distribution of the defoamer and to prevent cratering.
Overall, BYK-1630 offers effective defoaming properties, compatibility with aqueous systems, and ease of incorporation, making it suitable for various applications in the coatings, adhesives, and sealants industries.
