NUOSPERSE® W-39 is an APE-free pigment dispersing agent manufactured by Elementis Specialties, Inc. It serves to disperse various pigments effectively in waterborne systems, aiding in achieving full color development and maximizing production output. Here's a closer look at its features and applications:
General Information: NUOSPERSE W-39 is designed to disperse pigments efficiently in waterborne systems while stabilizing the resulting dispersion to prevent re-flocculation and viscosity drift. It is low in VOC and free of alkylphenolethoxylates.
Chemical & Physical Properties:
- Active Solids: 44%
- Weight per Gallon: 8.8 lbs/gal
- Specific Gravity: 1.05
- Viscosity: 200-600 cps
- VOC: 0.53 lbs./gal (US EPA Standard Test Method 24)
Applications: NUOSPERSE W-39 is recommended for various pigments including phthalo blue/green, naphthol, and quinacridone. It is compatible with most waterborne coatings vehicles and finds applications in decorative paints, industrial coatings, automotive coatings, inks, adhesives, and more.
Key Properties:
- Rapid pigment wetting
- Good flow at high pigment loading
- Increased mill output
- Maximum tinting strength development
- Full chroma development
- Long-term viscosity stability
- Optimum initial gloss and gloss retention
- Elimination of hard settling
Incorporation: NUOSPERSE W-39 should be added to a mill base prior to the addition of pigments.
Levels of Use: For coatings and inks where pigment is dispersed in a water-soluble resin, a 2% addition of NUOSPERSE W-39 on the mill base portion of the formula is recommended. In the manufacture of concentrated tinting colors, levels of 10.0% to 15% on pigment load are suggested.
