Formulation:

1. Neocryl® XK-117 - Binder (Supplier: Covestro Coating Resins)
2. Byk 024 - Defoamer (Supplier: BYK Chemie)

Premix:

• Premix the following and add to 1-2 while stirring: 3. Asconium-142-DA - Anticorrosive additive (Supplier: Ascotec)
  4. AMP-90 - Multifunctional (Supplier: Angus)
  5. Demi water
  6. Dowanol DPnB - Co-solvent (Supplier: Dow Chemicals)
  7. Ascotran-H10 - Flash-rust inhibitor (Supplier: Ascotec)

Mill Base:

• Add the following in the listed order to 1-4 while stirring: 8. Demi water
  9. Tegodisperse 750W - Dispersing agent (Supplier: Evonik)
  10. Byk 024 - Defoamer (Supplier: BYK Chemie)
  11. Tafigel PUR 85 - Rheology additive (Supplier: Münzing Chemie)
  12. Kronos 2190 - Pigment (Supplier: Kronos)
• Mix 8-12 in the listed order and disperse until fineness is less than 10 µm.
• Add the mill base to the formulation (1-7).

Let Down:

• Add the following while mixing well: 13. Tafigel PUR 64 - Rheology additive (Supplier: Münzing Chemie)
• Disperse for 10 minutes at 2000 rpm.
• Check film appearance by making a drawdown on glass with a 100 µm applicator.

Typical Values

Tests:

• Dry solids by weight: 42%
• pH: 8.4
• Viscosity Brookfield 60 rpm @ 25°C: 500 mPa.s
• PVC: 15.5%

Spraying Conditions

Air Spray:

• Nozzle: 2.0 mm
• Pressure: 3.5 bar

Drying Conditions

Step 1:

• Temperature: 22°C
• Relative Humidity: 50%
• Drying Time: 24 hours

Step 2:

• Temperature: 50°C
• Drying Time: 16 hours
• Airspeed: 1.2 m/s

Application Properties

Tests:

• Gloss (20° / 60°): 66 / 88 GU
• Konig Hardness after 1 day at RT: 23 sec
• Konig Hardness after 1 day at 50°C ageing: 96 sec
• Adhesion to CRS type Q-panel R-46: Gt

Performance Level

Salt Spray Resistance (ASTM B117):

• Scribe Corrosion after 500 hours exposure: None
• Field Corrosion after 500 hours exposure: None
