PRIMAL™ HG-98

PRIMAL™ HG-98 Binder is a pure acrylic emulsion polymer produced by The Dow Chemical Company, designed for use in gloss and semi-gloss paints. This binder is part of Dow's Coating Materials product line and is tailored to provide superior film resistance properties and an excellent appearance. It uses ambient temperature cross-linking technology to offer improved film performance compared to conventional polymers.

Typical Properties:

• Appearance: Milky white liquid.
• Solids Content: 44.5–45.5%.
• pH: 8.5–9.5.
• Viscosity: < 500 mPa.s (Brookfield LV, spindle 3, 60 rpm).
• Minimum Film Formation Temperature: ~24ºC.
• Specific Gravity: 1.06 g/cm³ (wet polymer), 1.14 g/cm³ (dry polymer).

Formulation Guidelines:

• Dispersants: Use OROTAN™ 731A ER or OROTAN™ 1124 for good gloss development and pigment stability.
• Defoamers: A combination of Byk-019 and Byk-024 for gloss formulations; DOWSIL™ 8590 Additive and DOWSIL™ 74 Additive for semi-gloss formulations.
• Rheology Modifiers: ACRYSOL™ RM-3030 and ACRYSOL™ RM-2020E for application properties and dry film performance.
• Coalescents: Use 8-10% on binder solids. Suitable options include DOWANOL™ DPnB Glycol Ether, UCAR™ Filmer IBT, or Texanol ester alcohol.
• Biocides: ROCIMA MB2X Biocide for in-can preservation, BIOBAN 350 PST Biocide for exterior coatings.

Safety and Handling:

• Storage: Store in tightly closed original containers at recommended temperatures.
• Disposal: Dispose of in accordance with local or national regulations.
