Desmodur® IL EA is an aromatic polyisocyanate resin based on toluylene diisocyanate (TDI). It serves as a hardener component for fast-drying two-component polyurethane coatings. Additionally, when combined with various Baycoll® products or other hydroxyl-bearing substances, it can be used to formulate adhesives.
Here are some key specifications and properties:
Solubility/Thinnability: Desmodur® IL EA has good compatibility with esters such as ethyl acetate, butyl acetate, and 1-methoxypropylacetate-2, as well as with aromatic hydrocarbons such as toluene, xylene, Solvesso® 100, and Shellsol® A. However, the solutions formed must be tested for their storage stability. It is not compatible with aliphatics, and alcohols cannot be used with it.
Compatibility: Desmodur® IL EA is compatible with many Desmophen® and Baycoll® products, as well as other Desmodur products.
Properties/Applications: Due to its fast drying, Desmodur® IL EA finds applications in coatings for on-line application, such as in the packaging industry or industrial furniture finishing. It enables the application of high-bodied finishes with just a few steps within a short period. It is also suitable for room-temperature crosslinking of adhesives based on Desmocoll® or Baycoll®, improving resistance to heat, oil, plasticizers, and many solvents while ensuring good adhesion to various materials, especially plastics.
Storage: It should be stored in its original sealed container at a recommended temperature of 0°C to 30°C, protected from moisture, heat, and foreign material.
Desmodur® IL EA is primarily used as a hardener in coating materials or adhesives, typically in industrial or trade applications. It is not suitable for DIY applications. Users should test the product for suitability in their specific applications and adhere to safety guidelines provided in the safety data sheet.
