Desmodur® I

Desmodur® I is a monomeric cycloaliphatic diisocyanate used in the manufacture of polyisocyanates and polyurethanes. Its chemical name is isophorone diisocyanate (IPDI), with a molecular weight of 222 and an equivalent weight of 111. It is supplied as a clear liquid.

Desmodur® I is sensitive to moisture and should be stored in its original sealed container at temperatures between 0 to 30°C, protected from moisture, heat, and foreign material. It may solidify at significantly lower temperatures, but this solidification is reversible by briefly heating the product without affecting its quality.

Safety precautions should be taken while handling Desmodur® I as it is toxic by inhalation, severely irritates the skin, and may cause sensitization. It can also irritate the mucous membranes of the eyes and respiratory tract. Additionally, it is toxic to aquatic organisms and may cause long-term adverse effects in the aquatic environment.

As with other Desmodur® products, Desmodur® I should not be used for medical devices, food contact products, or cosmetic applications without prior approval from Covestro.
