Desmodur® H is a monomeric aliphatic diisocyanate, specifically hexamethylene-1,6-diisocyanate (HDI) or 1,6-Diisocyanatohexane. It's commonly used in the manufacture of polyisocyanates, particularly as a hardener in coating materials or adhesives. Its chemical structure consists of hexamethylene-1,6-diisocyanate units linked together.
Key specifications of Desmodur® H include an NCO content of at least 49.7%, an assay (GC) of at least 99.5%, and a color value (Hazen) of no more than 30. It should be stored in its original sealed container at temperatures between 0 to 30°C, protected from moisture, heat, and foreign materials.
It's important to note that Desmodur® H is sensitive to moisture, and storage at higher temperatures can result in increased color and viscosity. Covestro, the manufacturer, recommends testing the product if it has been stored for more than six months to ensure it still meets specifications.
Desmodur® H is primarily intended for industrial or trade applications and is not suitable for use in DIY applications. Additionally, it's not designated for medical grade, food contact, or cosmetic applications unless Covestro has provided explicit approval for such use.
