Description
ADDITOL® VXW 5907 is a defoamer designed for water-dilutable paints, formulated without silicone addition. It acts to reduce foam and facilitate rapid defoaming by changing the surface tension of the paint. This product is particularly suited for spray applications, where it can help reduce the flash-off time before stoving without causing defects in the cured film. It also enhances pigment wetting and flow-out properties.
Key characteristics and properties include:
- Dynamic Viscosity: Typically between 140 to 300 mPa.s at 25°C.
- pH-Value: Generally ranging from 6.5 to 8.0 in 50% ethanol solution.
- Colour/Appearance: Pale yellow color with a clear to slightly cloudy appearance.
- Density: Approximately 1.00 g/cm³ at 20°C.
- Flash Point: Around 55°C.
Suggested uses include incorporation into water-dilutable paints, especially for spray application. It is effective in reducing the flash-off time prior to stoving without compromising the quality of the cured film. The recommended dosage typically ranges from 2% to 3% on binder solids (100%), with the optimum quantity determined through individual tests.
In terms of processing, it can be admixed to the finished paint but should be incorporated carefully, particularly when using a dissolver. It can also be added to pigment paste prior to milling, preferably dispersed with the neutralized binder and deionized water in a slightly alkaline medium.
For storage, it is advised to store ADDITOL® VXW 5907 at temperatures up to 25°C in its original containers, with a storage stability of at least 730 days. Turbidity may occur below 15°C, but this does not affect the effectiveness of the product.
A distinguishing feature of ADDITOL® VXW 5907 is its better water-thinnability compared to other products, making it suitable for use in low solvent content systems (solvent content under 10%).
