Desmodur® HL EA is an aromatic/aliphatic polyisocyanate based on toluylene diisocyanate (TDI) and hexamethylene diisocyanate (HDI). Like other Desmodur® products, it's used in combination with various Desmophen® grades or other substances containing hydroxyl groups to formulate two-component polyurethane coatings.
Some key specifications of Desmodur® HL EA include:
It's supplied at approximately 60% concentration in ethyl acetate and is compatible with solvents such as butyl acetate and 1-methoxypropylacetate-2 for thinning.
Desmodur® HL EA is commonly used for formulating wood coatings due to its rapid initial drying and early sandability. It can also be used to formulate high-quality coatings for paper and foils.
Similar to other Desmodur® products, Desmodur® HL EA should be stored in its original sealed container at temperatures between 0 to 30°C, protected from moisture, heat, and foreign materials. It's sensitive to moisture, and storage at high temperatures can lead to changes in viscosity and NCO content.
As with other polyisocyanates, Desmodur® HL EA is primarily used as a hardener in coating materials or adhesives and is suitable for industrial or trade applications. It's not suitable for DIY applications or designated for medical grade, food contact, or cosmetic applications unless explicitly approved by Covestro.
Users should conduct their own testing to ensure suitability for their intended applications, considering technical, health, safety, and environmental factors.
