High gloss white coat paint formula

This formulation is for a high gloss white coat paint, designed to provide a smooth, glossy finish with excellent leveling and sag resistance. The formulation incorporates various additives to enhance its performance, stability, and application properties. This high gloss top white coat paint is based on Synaqua* 4804 alkyd emulsion and uses Aquaflow™ NLS-220E and Aquaflow™ NMS-450E non-ionic synthetic associative thickeners (NSAT).

Components and Their Functions:

   • Function: Vehicle, dissolving and carrying other components.
2. Biocide (Nuosept BIC)*
   • Function: In-can preservative, preventing microbial growth in the paint.
3. Foam Control Agent (Drewplus™ TS-4385)
   • Function: Reduces foam formation during application.
4. Block Co-polymer (Disperbyk 190)*
   • Function: Wetting/dispersing agent, helping to evenly distribute pigments and fillers.
5. Titanium Dioxide (Kronos 2190)*
   • Function: Pigment, providing opacity and whiteness.
6. Water (Let Down)
   • Function: Additional vehicle, diluting and adjusting the formulation.
7. Alkyd Emulsion (Synaqua 4804)*
   • Function: Binder, forming a durable and glossy film upon drying.
8. Non-carboxylate Iron Complex (Borchi OXY-coat 1101)*
   • Function: Dryer, accelerating the drying process.
9. Propane-1,2-diol (Propylene Glycol)
   • Function: Co-solvent, enhancing the solubility of other components.
10. Silicon-based Surfactant (BYK 347)*
    • Function: Substrate wetting, improving adhesion and leveling.
11. Phosphate Ester (Dextrol™ OC-180HS)
    • Function: Surfactant, enhancing the stability and performance of the paint.
12. NSAT (Aquaflow™ NLS-220E)
    • Function: Rheology modifier, adjusting viscosity and flow properties.
13. NSAT (Aquaflow™ NMS-450E)
    • Function: Additional rheology modifier, further fine-tuning viscosity and flow properties.

Preparation Procedure:

1. Initial Mixing:
   • Add water to a mixing container.
   • Incorporate biocide (Nuosept* BIC), foam control agent (Drewplus™ TS-4385), and block co-polymer (Disperbyk* 190), stirring continuously to ensure proper mixing.
   • Gradually add titanium dioxide (Kronos* 2190) and disperse at high speed until the Hegmann gauge shows particles <10 microns.
2. Let Down:
   • Add the second portion of water.
   • Gradually incorporate alkyd emulsion (Synaqua* 4804) and mix thoroughly.
   • Add non-carboxylate iron complex (Borchi* OXY-coat 1101) and propylene glycol, stirring to ensure uniformity.
   • Incorporate silicon-based surfactant (BYK* 347) and phosphate ester (Dextrol™ OC-180HS), mixing well.
   • Gradually add NSAT (Aquaflow™ NLS-220E and NMS-450E) while stirring to achieve the desired rheological properties.
